FARE is a Great Name for the Recently United Food Allergy Organizations

The Wedding of FARE
DJ Announcer: ..."Now, may I please have your attention as we welcome the new couple, F.A.R.E.! Please join me in congratulating the happy reunion!"

Vigorous applause erupts from the crowd.

A sniffle or two can be heard from the crowd as guest realize that things will never be the same again.

We will know longer refer to FAAN, the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network, or to FAI, Food Allergy Initiative. They are no longer single, but have joined together to form a bond to transcend what either was before.

I really like the new name, although I'm sure I'll slip a time or two and use the maiden name of one of the organizations. F.A.R.E. stands for Food Allergy Research and Education. I am pleased with the emphasis on research and education. As the rate of food allergies continues to increase, there are more people, restaurants, food manufacturers, schools, hospitals and other organizations requiring education and support. Those of us closely connected to food allergy need better answers about treatment and cures, so I hope to see that in the near future.

You can read all the details of the merger here. The new logo will be revealed in early 2013 and the new website will reside at www.foodallergy.org.

I just want to know who got to wear the beautiful gown...

Food Allergy Parents Share Their Feelings

It's Food Allergy Awareness Week and what better way to inform others about what it's like to be a food allergy parent by sharing this YouTube video: Parents Speak About Their Children's Food Allergies. For my fellow food allergy parents, you'll get chills watching it because we can really relate to it. For people who don't deal with food allergies everyday, this video may help them better understand what it's like to think every day, "Please don't let anyone slip up today".

Share it on your Facebook page, send it to your email contacts, forward it to your kids' teachers. It's a powerful one.

Food Allergy Ball at Waldorf Raises Millions

The 13th annual Food Allergy Ball was held Monday, December 6, 2010 at The Waldorf-Astoria in New York. The evening raised over $4.5 million, which will benefit the Food Allergy Initiative’s research activities and educational programs.

Gift bags featured items like cupcakes from Izzi B's, cookies from Sweet Loren's cookies, and chocolate bars by Divvies. All food served had clearly displayed labels listing all ingredients.
Check out these beautiful pictures from Black Tie magazine showcasing the 13th annual event. What a great way to raise money and awareness for food allergies.

Food Allergy Ball

Emeril was there. So were some of the Kennedys. Dr. Hugh Sampson attended the event as well.

Last night, the 12th annual Food Allergy Ball was held at The Waldorf Astoria in New York City. This is a benefit to raise money for Food Allergy Initiative (FAI). Tables were available for $50,000, $25,000 and $15,000, with individual tickets going for $5,000, $2,500 and $1,500. A little too rich for my wallet, but I hope they raised a boatload of money!

FAI, founded in 1998 by a group of concerned parents, is the largest private source of funding for food allergy research in the United States. Their goal is to fund research that seeks a cure. They also put money toward improving diagnosis and treatment and keeping patients safe through education and advocacy.

The FAI site is filled with lots of helpful information. It's worth checking out.
